String: An Odd Evening With Tyrone and Lesley

Event Description

Tyrone and Lesley play light music for dark times, designed to defy the drop-downs, fashioned to fly across the footlights and into your heart. This dashing duo have played their ukulele and double bass at the Sydney Opera House, headlined in the UK, New Zealand, and festivals all over Australia.  Just like their odd combination of instruments, this unlikely pair divine humour and harmony in the highs and lows we reach to grasp that we all belong somewhere – even the odd ones out.

For one night only experience the refinement, alignment and the entwinement of Tyrone and Lesley. Unwinding as a cross between a concert and slide night they’ll make your heartstrings ring as they string together 20 years of hits and premiere songs from their new recording ‘String’.

The subtlety behind each and every well-chosen note, the way the instruments braid themselves together, the clever intricacies in the timing and dynamics are sublime. There’s so much space in this music, so much understated sophistication. Indeed, so much goes unsaid, it speaks volumes. Uke Magazine (UK)

The skill needed to pull our emotions from amused jubilation to sombre beauty is a rare one but these guys have it in abundance UkePlanet (UK)

About the Artists

Tyrone and Lesley are a songwriting and performance duo who pair the high and low in a wild and binary orbit in the dark and sparkling space between the ukulele and double bass. Having one foot on the theatre stage and the other on the music stage is a striking stance which has seen them headline for audiences little and large all over Australia and abroad. They’ve released 5 albums and one EP. Their last one, Optimism was dubbed ‘Ukulele Recording of the year’ (Ukulelehunt)

Finalists in the Queensland Music Awards, they’ve played the Sydney Opera House, Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Melbourne Recital Centre, The Adelaide Festival Centre and many events including the New Zealand International Ukulele Festival, Melbourne Ukulele Festival, Cairns Ukulele Festival, Spruke, Blue Mountains Ukulele Festival, the Brisbane Festival, Perth’s Awesome Festival, the UK’s Grand Northern Ukulele Festival and many others.
